Body Rings

Rings are worn for different- and symbolic- purposes; the most common being the ones used as fashion accessories and those used to signify marital status. But aside rings used for these conventional reasons, vaginal rings [which have medical implications] have also been designed. The vaginal ring is a form of contraception that is inserted into the vagina to prevent pregnancy; it has also been found to be effective in regulating menstrual cycle in some ways. They are usually made from silicone or certain types of pliable plastic. Examples of some brands of vaginal rings include: Femring, Estring, Nuvaring and so on.

This set of rings works by releasing synthetic oestrogen and/or progesterone- both known to be birth control hormones- into the bloodstream. The ring stops ovulation; makes the cervix impenetrable for the sperm and also causes the uterine wall to be less receptive. However, to achieve this result, the ring will have to be constantly worn for up to three to four weeks.

Despite the profound benefits that are attainable from using vaginal rings; there are some health complications that evolve from the usage of these rings- these (complications) arise as the oestrogen level shoots up. Vaginal rings, on some occasions, have been shown to trigger cardiovascular issues [like heart attack and high blood pressure], breast tenderness, vaginal infections, and cause some other minor disturbances in the well-being of some women who use them.
